Our top priority is to grow fruit of the highest caliber. We’re willing to sacrifice the quantity of our harvests to create higher quality fruit.

Welcome to A Cellar Full of Noise!

We invite you to explore these pages to get know more about us, our wine, and the Paso Robles appellation.

Our Story

In the mid-1970s, James T. Judd and his son James B. Judd began growing apples and livestock in San Miguel, CA, just north of the Paso Robles airport. In 1995, the land was cleared and a forty-acre Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard was planted. It has since evolved into a destination for wine enthusiasts from around the world, although we still refer to it as “the farm.” The first James Judd & Son Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon was released in 2003.

In 1998, a twenty-eight acre vineyard was planted on a high-elevation hill in Shandon, CA, forty miles east of the Pacific Ocean. Malbec, Petit Verdot, Barbera and Tempranillo grow side-by-side in seven-acre blocks filled with ancient river stones. Ten acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, a small plot of Orange Muscat, and a field of pomegranate trees are were added in 2008.

The Shandon Vineyard was intended to provide blending grapes for Paso Robles wine producers who wanted to use only local grapes in their wines but didn’t have the means or the patience to grow these demanding varietals. The exceptional quality of our harvests gave us the confidence to hold back a small portion of each harvest to bottle under our own label.

In 2002, the elder James Judd left James Judd & Son Vineyards to create new brands geared toward the wine market in his favorite state of Texas. In 2005, we created the A Cellar Full of Noise brand to throw off the traditional stuffiness of fine wine and attract new wine enthusiasts to our exciting, but often unfamiliar varietals.

A Cellar Full of Noise and James Judd & Son Vineyards wines are now enjoyed by wine drinkers in the USA, Canada, China, and Europe. We’re hoping to add you to our list!

Thank you.
